How We Work

At Faded Mist, our process is built around one simple belief:
beautiful kitchens are the result of care, control, and time — not shortcuts.

What to Expect

This page outlines how a typical Faded Mist project works — from your initial enquiry through to completion.

While every kitchen is different, our process remains consistent. Each stage is carefully managed to deliver a controlled, long-lasting finish, built through care, time, and attention to detail.

We take a considered, workshop-led approach to every project.

Rather than rushing work on-site, each stage of the process is carried out in controlled conditions — allowing us to build a finish that looks exceptional on installation day and continues to perform for years to come.

By working this way, we’re able to achieve a level of consistency, durability, and refinement that simply isn’t possible otherwise.

01

A considered start - not a sales visit

Every project begins with a conversation, not a hard sell.

We’ll usually start with a quick phone call or message to understand your kitchen, followed by a small number of photos and details. This allows us to properly assess the space, its condition, and what’s realistically achievable.

From there, we provide a carefully considered estimate tailored to your home — not a one-size-fits-all price.

This approach keeps things straightforward, avoids unnecessary visits, and ensures we’re both aligned from the very beginning.

02

Confirming the details

If the estimate feels right, we arrange a site visit.

This is where everything becomes clear.

We’ll talk through the process in more detail, answer any questions you may have, and make sure you feel completely comfortable with how the project will be carried out — from start to finish.

You’ll also have the opportunity to explore colours and finishes more closely, whether that’s reviewing options in your home or visiting our Finishing Studio to see sample panels and completed finishes in person.

By the end of this stage, you’ll have a clear understanding of what to expect, with no uncertainty around the process or the result.

03

Booking your place in our diary

Once you’re happy to move forward, we secure your place in our diary with a 10% booking deposit.

From there, everything is planned with care.

Rather than fixing rigid dates too early, we pencil projects in and confirm them closer to the time — allowing space for final decisions such as colour selection and ensuring each stage of the process runs smoothly.

You’ll be guided through each step in advance, so nothing feels rushed, unclear, or left to chance.

This approach keeps the experience flexible, well-paced, and free from unnecessary pressure.

Preparation - where the quality is built

04

Once everything is booked in, preparation begins.

All removable components are carefully taken to our Finishing Studio. While doors and drawer fronts are being finished, your kitchen remains fully usable.

This is where the real transformation starts.

Before any finish is applied, each piece goes through a detailed preparation process, built up over multiple stages to ensure a consistent, long-lasting result.

It’s a time-intensive part of the process, and intentionally so.

Because the quality of the final finish is only ever as good as what sits beneath it — and this is where we make sure it’s right.

05

Where the finish comes together
- our Finishing Studio

All spraying is carried out in-house at our Leeds-based Finishing Studio.

Working in a controlled environment allows us to build finishes gradually, with proper curing between stages.

It means we can control temperature, conditions, and application at every stage, resulting in a more consistent finish and a higher level of detail across every surface.

This level of control reduces variables, improves consistency, and removes the need to rush — allowing each piece to be finished properly, without compromise.

It’s one of the key reasons our work feels different — because it is.

06

Working carefully in your home

While components are being finished in our Finishing Studio, any on-site work is carried out at your home.

We take care to properly prepare and protect the space before any work begins — using professional masking systems, dust-controlled sanding, and extraction where needed to keep the environment clean and contained.

Everything is carried out methodically, with a focus on minimising disruption and maintaining a tidy, organised workspace throughout.

In most cases, your kitchen remains fully usable throughout the process, with only a single overnight period where it’s temporarily unavailable.

By the end of each day, everything is left in a clean, controlled, and considered condition

07

Reinstallation & final checks

Once all components have fully cured, we return to reinstall everything with care and precision.

Doors and drawer fronts are carefully refitted, with each piece handled properly to protect the newly finished surfaces.

We carry out final checks to ensure everything is working as expected, and that the finish is consistent across the kitchen as a whole.

We only sign off once everything meets our standards. At this point, everything is back in place, and the kitchen is ready to be used as normal.

Why this Approach Matters

Our process isn’t the fastest — and it isn’t designed to be.

It's built to deliver:

  • A finish that lasts

  • A kitchen that feels complete

  • A result suited to daily life

By controlling every stage of the process, we remove guesswork and protect the quality of the final result.
